Manyatta Talks
"Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things"

Inspired by Ubuntu philosophy—"I am because you are"—Manyatta Talks creates a powerful platform showcasing Black excellence through 30-minute virtual conversations. Just as a traditional Manyatta serves as an open gathering place for warriors protecting their community, our media platform operates without barriers, welcoming all who seek to celebrate and uplift Black voices.
Founded on Spike Lee's vision that "Black people have to be in control of their own image," we're committed to transforming the African and Black narrative globally. Through authentic storytelling and representation, we empower ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

Our Mission: Changing the Narrative
Control Our Image
We create positive and uplifting media content that authentically represents Black experiences, ensuring we define our own narrative rather than letting others shape our story.
Change the Narrative
Through compelling storytelling, we challenge stereotypes and misconceptions about African and Black communities worldwide, presenting nuanced perspectives often missing from mainstream media.
Showcase Excellence
We highlight the achievements, innovations, and contributions of Black individuals across various fields, demonstrating the breadth and depth of Black excellence to a global audience.
Grounded in Spike Lee's observation that "People of color have a constant frustration of not being represented, or being misrepresented," our mission drives everything we do. We understand that these images travel worldwide, shaping perceptions and influencing opportunities.
The Inspiration Behind Manyatta Talks
I think black people have to be in control of their own image because film is a powerful medium. We can't just sit back and let other people define our existence.
Media Representation
"People of color have a constant frustration of not being represented, or being misrepresented, and these images go around the world."
Cultural Bombardment
"Every minority knows everything about the dominant culture. From the time you can think, you are bombarded with images from TV, film, magazines, newspapers."
Educational Impact
"If we became students of Malcolm X, we would not have young black men out there killing each other like they're killing each other now."
Spike Lee's powerful words remind us that media shapes consciousness. At Manyatta Talks, we're answering his call to take control of our narrative through authentic representation.
The Philosophy of Ubuntu

Interconnectedness
"A person is a person through other people" affirms one's humanity through recognizing others in their uniqueness and difference.

Reflection
The 'other' becomes a mirror for my subjectivity, suggesting humanity isn't embedded solely in individuals but co-substantively bestowed upon each other.

Co-creation
Humanity is a quality we owe to each other. We create each other and need to sustain this otherness through mutual recognition.

Dynamic Identity
The 'I am' is not a rigid subject, but a dynamic self-constitution dependent on this otherness of relation and distance.
Ubuntu philosophy grounds our approach at Manyatta Talks, reminding us that "we are because you are, and since you are, definitely I am." This interconnectedness shapes our content creation and community engagement.
An Inclusive Space for All
Global Perspective
Manyatta Talks operates from an Afrocentric viewpoint while welcoming participants from all backgrounds and identities.
Human Connection
"There is only one race, the human race" - Mangaliso Sobukwe's wisdom guides our inclusive approach.
Truth & Justice
Following Malcolm X's commitment to "truth, no matter who tells it" and "justice, no matter who it is for or against."
Universal Benefit
Creating content that "benefits humanity as a whole" while celebrating Black excellence and achievement.
While our focus highlights Black excellence, Manyatta Talks welcomes everyone. We believe authentic representation enriches all communities, creating bridges of understanding across cultures and experiences.
Our Visual Identity: Red, Black & Green
Red
Represents the blood that unites all people of Black African ancestry, and that which has been shed for liberation throughout history.
Black
Symbolizes Black people whose existence as a nation, though not a nation-state, is affirmed by the existence of the flag and our shared heritage.
Green
Celebrates the abundant natural wealth of Africa and represents hope, fertility, and the promise of new growth and prosperity.
These Pan-African colors form the foundation of our visual identity at Manyatta Talks. More than mere aesthetics, they connect our platform to a rich heritage of liberation movements and Black empowerment across the diaspora, reminding us of our shared history and collective future.
